Most online image compressors have a dirty secret: they're upload services. Your photo travels to someone's server, sits in a queue, gets processed, and — you hope — gets deleted. Vocce's image compressor runs entirely in your browser. The file never leaves your device, which is why there's no upload bar, no queue, and no privacy question to answer in the first place.

Local also means instant. Compression uses your browser's built-in image engine — decode, optionally scale down over-sized dimensions, re-encode as WebP (or JPEG where WebP isn't available) at a tuned quality level. A 12-megapixel phone photo compresses in well under a second, and because there's no server doing the work, there's no file-count limit and nothing to pay for.

The three levels map to real situations. Balanced re-encodes at quality 72 with a 2560px cap — visually indistinguishable for screens, usually 60–80% smaller. Smallest targets chat apps and 1MB upload limits: quality 55, 1600px cap, routinely 80–90% smaller. High keeps quality 85 and up to 4096px for images that still have work to do. And one guarantee across all three: if re-encoding would somehow make your file bigger — already-optimized images exist — you get the original back, never a worse file.

Is my image really not uploaded? +

Really. Compression runs in your browser using the Canvas API — you can open this page, switch to airplane mode, and it still works. There's no server-side processing at all.

How much smaller will my image get? +

Photos typically shrink 50–90% depending on the level. Balanced usually lands 60–80% smaller; Smallest goes further with a lower quality and 1600px cap. Already-compressed images shrink less — and if re-encoding can't beat the original, you get the original back.

What formats are supported? +

JPG, PNG, and WebP in; WebP out by default (JPEG fallback where WebP encoding isn't available). PNG screenshots usually see the biggest savings.

Will it reduce my image's quality? +

Each level trades size against fidelity honestly: Balanced is visually indistinguishable on screens, Smallest shows minor softness at 100% zoom, High is conservative. The before/after sizes let you judge before saving.

Over-sized dimensions are capped per level (2560px balanced, 1600px smallest, 4096px high) — a major, legitimate source of savings for phone photos. Images under the cap keep their dimensions.
